On Friday, March 13th, we held a training event at Minitex for colleagues interested in learning about standardized rights statements and how to apply them. A small but engaged group joined us and together we reviewed the statements from and worked through examples from Minnesota Reflections and the University of Minnesota's collections. Our participants found that applying rights statements is often easier than you think!

Implementing Rights Statements at the Northtown Public Library

Despite the chilly day, there was a nice-sized group of people in attendance at the rights statements implementation training event on Friday, December 6th at the Northtown Public Library in Blaine. Participants at the event learned about the rights statements, why they are important, and how they help users by providing helpful descriptive information about the rights status of their digital items.

MDL rights work and associated metadata changes

Users of Minnesota Reflections may have noticed some changes to the database's metadata. Based on the recent work of the Rights Implementation Team, we have begun to change how we record and share the metadata associated with the rights to use and re-use items in Minnesota Reflections. These changes reflect the standard we have adopted, namely the work shared via provides a set of standardized rights statements for digital cultural heritage heritage projects. In order to display this information, we have added some new fields to show the statement and the text that explains the statements.
